Well, thats it, the first part of the journey is over. In the end we didn’t make it to Italy, its been there a long time, it can wait a little bit longer.
A final walk along the beach of Cap Gris Nez and we pack up Reg for the last time. The plan is to head off to the train terminal via the supermarket and start the journey home.
Having spent a fantastic 3 weeks in this beautiful country, we have been to places and met people that we could only have dreamt of.
A journey like this allows time to reflect on what is important and make sure that a little is learnt, else why go?
What have we learnt,
- France is a beautiful and diverse country
- The French are a welcoming nationality
- Life on the road, allows interaction with parts of a country that you could easily miss if not immersed
- It is important, if not essential to speak, or at least attempt to speak the language of the country, even if its a few words. People respond immediately to you if you greet them, or at least try to, in their own tongue
- The people that are left behind, provide a continued source of support
- Theres no place like home, but there is a big wide world out there to experience
This is not the end, its just the end of Chapter 1. On return, I intend to plan the next trip and hopefully, some time over the summer, experience the pleasure of a different group of people that I have yet to meet.
In the meantime however, I would like to especially thank the readers of this blog, some I know..some I don’t. Its so gratifying to know that someone is interested in the activities and actually required me to explore even further into the experiences of each day, in order to understand and put into words what they day brought, something I have never shared before.
Finally, a thank you to neighbours and friends back home who allowed us the piece of mind that there would be no nasty surprises on our return.
A bientôt

Great read Tony, looking forward to the next one.
I must say – I am a little jealous; not of your immense beauty, your adequate manliness or your traveling companions but of your choice to postpone the rat race and follow your dream.
Have fun, beers soon.

Look forwArd to that mate, the rats will be racing for a long time to come, so figured why not let them race alone for a while 🙂
